a confession

I feel I should 'fess up and admit that I'm not writing much at the moment. In fact, I don't think I've done anything for a fortnight. I've barely even thought about the re-write. I'm just hiding behind my "period of reflection and contemplation" as an excuse for being slack. And here it is September already, and I haven't even started the next draft. I was going to have it finished by the end of the year.

  1. There's no reason you still can't! I can see I'm going to have to come and stand behind you with a big stick, and watch your fingers frantically working to keep that big whack at bay! lol. Maybe I'll have to ban you from Facebook and DVDs. (Not that I'm your conscience or anything...)

  2. Finishing the first draft was an amazing achievement. It’s only natural that you’d want take a breath after reaching such a momentous milestone. The end of the year was only an arbitrary line you drew in the sand to help you stay focused and motivated. So what if the end of December becomes the end of January or middle of February. The important thing is to make a fresh start and keep going. Your morning writing ritual served you well during the first draft – maybe this week is the week you take it up again. Good luck. I’ll be thinking of you.

  3. Do you think that perhaps you need some sort of milestone event that marks the start of the re-write? Something that would leave you focused and enjoying the re-write, rather than feeling daunted by it?

  4. Thanks for your kind words, my friends. I think I'm just being lazy. A little bit daunted, yes, (although also excited). But a writer tends to put some things on hold, and I've been rediscovering such things. I will re-start soon.

What sort of 'milestone event' did you have in mind?

  5. Er, mine weren't "kind" words, Ellen. They were stern words. Watch out because if you spend too long paddling around and not writing, I'm going to sic Chenna onto you! Be afraid, my friend, be very afraid. That is one devilcat!

  6. I should've added a grin, or smiley face to that post! Consider it there.
